Windsurf a Maio? Ora è possibile!

Maio, per le sue caratteristiche, è un posto bellissimo per il windsurf, surf & kite: lunghe spiaggie bianche, sole, temperatura sempre sopra i 20 gradi e un vento caldo costante con una percentuale di vento superiore ai 4 bft attorno al 75%, nei mesi da ottobre a maggio. Onde o acqua piatta condiscono il tutto.
Anche se non si dispone ancora di un centro nautico adeguato, grazie alla collaborazione di Paolo e Daniela con Bruno & Romina del gruppo www.iparassiti.com, ora anche l'isola di Maio ha il suo piccolissimo noleggio di windsurf.

Gli spot:

Vila do Maio: Nell'ampia spiaggia del paese, il bellissimo spot slalom-freeride-freestyle trova il giusto compromesso tra acqua piatta e vento leggero. Ideale per iniziare con condizioni di vento da NW, quando cioè si esce al traverso dalla spiaggia. Con vento da NE le condizioni si fanno più impegnative in quanto il vento inizia a soffiare con maggiore intensità e permette velocissime uscite in acqua piatta o condizioni freestyle con piccoli chop da sfruttare. Purtroppo con vento da NE l'uscita è più problematica per il fatto che il vento proviene da terra e quindi si richiede una maggiore esperienza.

Saline: Sul lato W del molo di attracco delle navi, sempre continuando dalla spiaggia di Vila do Maio, si trova il secondo spot freeride-slalom-freestyle. Ottimo come il precedente, offre condizioni leggermente migliori, sia per costanza di vento che per le condizioni, in quanto bordeggiando fino all'estrema punta dell'isola si trovano condizioni wave. Le condizioni sono impegnative sia per le correnti che per le onde (che raggiungono anche i 3 metri di altezza). Qui una buona esperienza vi farà cavalcare onde glassy e docili dove praticare waveriding o bump & jump.
Occhio allo shorebreak molto “dannoso” per voi e l'attrezzatura, nonostante ci sia il fondale di bellissima sabbia.

Morro: In auto a circa 4 km da Vila do Maio in direzione NW, percorrendo la strada dell'aereoporto giungerete a Morro. Dalla spiaggia di Morro non avete che l'imbarazzo della scelta: ONDE! Con vento side-shore forte quasi sempre, un fondale di sabbia con poche rocce, lo fanno un paradiso per il windsurf. Consigliato e ancora consigliato!

Ponta Preta: Anche l'Isola di Maio ha la sua Punta Preta!
Sicuramente meno impegnativa dell'onda di Sal, qui Punta Preta è un bellissimo spot per le rotazioni. Si trova a circa 2 km dal paese in direzione SE, seguendo la strada che costeggia la scogliera. Troverete così la foce di un fiume e da lì inizia una spiaggia bianca e bellissima.
Ora non avete che l'imbarazzo della scelta e godervi le condizioni di vento costante da NE e le onde che a volte superano i 2 metri di altezza.

Altri spot: L'Isola offre condizioni per tutti, e quelli sopraelencati sono solo alcuni degli spot. In realta l'isola andrebbe ancora windsurfisticamente scoperta e i più temerari, noleggiando un auto, possono sicuramente cavalcare nuovi spot.

ATTENZIONE:
Sull'isola non è presente un servizio di baywatching. E' buonsenso del windsurfista (ed in genere di chiunque si avventuri in mare) adottare le più comuni norme di sicurezza: se si esce da soli, avere almeno una persona in spiaggia che segua il praticante. Se le condizioni sono superiori alle proprie capacità, bisogna evitare di uscire per non rischiare di rompere e trovarsi in mezzo al mare. Studiate e valutate sempre lo spot, specialmente le prime volte. Attenzione allo shore break sia all'entrate che all'uscita dall'acqua e attenzione all'attrezzatura.

Noleggio:
Il noleggio dell'attrezzatura viene effettuato presso la Trattoria 4qwerty.
Bisogna presentare un documento valido, un recapito telefonico e una caparra di 50 euro oppure di 5500 escudo(che verrà restituita alla fine del noleggio).
Le tariffe sono di 20 euro (2200 ecv) al giorno e 100 euro (11000 ecv) la settimana.
Possibilità di assicurare l'attrezzatura con 5 euro (550 esc) al giorno.
ATTENZIONE: Non si noleggiano trapezi, mute e scarpette.

Assicurazione:
L'assicurazione comprende le rotture minime:

• rottura tasca d'albero,
• 1 pannello vela,
• rottura cimette trapezio,
• piede d'albero,
• straps,
• piccole ammaccature sulla coperta della tavola,
• graffi ed usura del boma.

L'assicurazione NON comprende:

• rottura albero (150 euro – 16500 ecv)
• rottura boma (100 euro – 11000 ecv)
• rottura di più pannelli della vela (50 euro – 5500 ecv oltre il primo)
• rottura della tavola con danno evidente (200 euro – 22000 ecv)
• rottura della pinna (100 euro – 11000 ecv)
• smarrimento attrezzatura.

Windsurfing in Maio Island? Now you can!

Maio, for its characteristics, is a wonderful place for windsurfing, surfing & kite: long white beaches, sun, temperature always above 20 degrees and a constant warm, with wind over 4 bft around 75% in the months from October to May. Wave or flat water everything.

Even if you do not have an adequate water sports center, with the help of Paolo and Daniela with Bruno & Romina group www.iparassiti.com, now the island of Maio has its tiny rental windsurfing.

The spots:

Vila do Maio: In the beach of the city, this beautiful spot slalom-freeride-freestyle find the right compromise between flat water and light winds. Ideal to start with NW wind conditions, when it comes side shore. With NE wind conditions become more challenging as the wind began to blow with greater intensity and allows fast output flat water or freestyle conditions with small chop to exploit. Unfortunately, blowing from the NE exit is more problematic by the fact that the wind comes from the earth and then requires more experience.

Saline: On the W side of the wharf mooring of vessels, always continuing from the beach of Vila do Maio, is the second spot freeride-slalom-freestyle. Excellent as its predecessor, offers slightly better conditions, both constancy of wind for the conditions, as boarding upwind at the tip of the wave conditions. The conditions are hard for both current and for the waves (which also reached 3 meters high). Here, if you are experienced, can ride glassy waves or bump & jump. Eye to the shorebreak very harmful to you and the equipment, although there is the backdrop of beautiful sand.
Morro: By car about 4 km from Vila do Maio direction NW, along the road to the airport to reach Morro. From the beach Morro make your choice! A beautiful playground of medium waves! With side-shore wind strong almost always a backdrop of sand with a few rocks, it is a paradise for windsurfing. Recommended!

Ponta Preta: The Island has its Maio Punta Preta! Surely most easier than the Punta Preta in Sal Island! Here Ponta Preta is a beautiful spot for rotations and waveridings. It is about 2 km from the town towards SE, following the path along the cliff. There is thus the mouth of a river and from there begins a whiteand beautiful beach. Now that you have an embarrassment of choice and enjoy the constant wind conditions NE and the waves that sometimes exceeds 2 meters in height.

Other spots: The Island offers conditions for all those listed above are only some of the spots. As a matter of fact the island would still windsurfisticamente discovery and boldest, renting a car, can certainly ride new spot.

CAUTION:
The country does not have a service baywatching. It's left to the common sense of windsurfer (and generally anyone go to the sea) adopting the most common safety standards: If you windsurf on your own, have at least one person on the beach who checks on the practitioner safety. If the conditions are superior to your ability, do not windsuf to avoid break and be in the middle of the sea. Study and evaluate always the spot, especially the first few times. Attention to the shore break in and out of water and always check the materials before and afer the use!

Rental:
The rental of equipment is possible at the Trattoria 4qwerty.
You must present a valid document, a telephone number and a deposit of 50 euros or 5500 escudo (which will be returned at the end of the rental).
Fares are 20 euros (2200 ecv) per day and 100 euros (11000 ecv) per week.
Is possible to ensure the equipment with 5 euros (550 esc) per day.
ATTENTION: We DO NOT hire harnesses, wetsuits and shoes.

Insurance:
The insurance includes following minimum breaks:

• Broken mast pocket,
• 1 sail panel,
• Harness Rope Break,
• Mastfoot,
• Straps,
• Small bruises on the deck of the board,
• Boom scratches and bruises.
  

The insurance NOT include:

• Breaking mast (150 euros - 16500 ecv).
• Breaking boom (100 euros - 11000 ecv).
• Break 2 or more of the sail panels (50 euros – 5500 ecv) each.
• Breaking of the board with evident damage (200 euros - 22000 ecv).
• Breaking the fin (100 euros - 11000 ecv).
• Loose of the equipment.
